Can CellPros Unlock Phones?

A SIM card, used for carrier unlocking a smartphone

Getting locked out of your phone can bring your whole day to a stop — whether you bought a used device tied to a carrier, or you simply forgot your passcode. So, can CellPros unlock phones? Yes — we can help with several kinds of unlocking, but the right solution depends on which kind of lock you’re dealing with. Here’s a clear, honest breakdown.

First, the two kinds of “unlocking”

People use “unlock” to mean two very different things, and they’re handled in completely different ways:

  • Carrier (network) unlock — freeing a phone so it can be used on a different carrier’s network.
  • Passcode / lock-screen lockout — regaining access to a device when you’re locked out of the screen.

Carrier (network) unlocks

Network locks are controlled by the carrier that sold the phone, and by law and software they’re best handled directly through your provider. Once your account is in good standing and the phone is eligible, your carrier can unlock it — usually free. We’re happy to help you figure out your phone’s status and walk you through the request so it goes smoothly.

Passcode and lock-screen lockouts

Forgot your passcode, or picked up a used phone that’s stuck at the lock screen? Our technicians can help with software and hardware troubleshooting to get you back into your device wherever it’s possible. It’s always worth bringing in — we’ll tell you honestly what your options are.

What we can — and can’t — do (the honest version)

Some locks exist specifically to stop theft, and we won’t bypass those — that same protection is what keeps your phone safe if it’s ever lost or stolen:

  • Activation Lock (iCloud) and Google account locks require the original owner’s login. If you bought the device secondhand, the previous owner needs to remove it from their account first.
  • Carrier balances or contracts must be settled with the carrier before a network unlock.

If you’re buying a used phone, always confirm it’s been fully signed out of the previous owner’s accounts before you pay — we can check this for you.

Bring it in and we’ll take a look

The fastest way to know your options is to have us look at the actual device. Stop by your nearest CellPros — Ashlan Ave, Peach & Kings Canyon, or Tower District — or contact us with your make and model. While you’re in, see everything we do on our phone repair and iPhone repair pages.
