“How much to fix my screen?” is the first question we hear — and the honest answer is: it depends on the device, not just the brand. There’s no flat “iPhone price” or “Samsung price.” Instead, a handful of factors decide the cost. Once you understand them, the pricing makes a lot more sense. Here’s a transparent look at what’s really going on.
The single largest driver of screen cost is the display technology. Older and budget models often use LCD panels, which are less expensive to replace. Newer flagships — most modern iPhones and nearly all high-end Samsung Galaxy phones — use OLED (Samsung calls theirs AMOLED) displays. OLED panels look stunning, but they cost significantly more as replacement parts. This is why a newer phone of either brand almost always costs more to fix than an older one.
With iPhones, the pattern is fairly predictable: older models with LCD screens are among the most affordable repairs, while the Pro and Pro Max models with large OLED displays sit at the higher end. The other thing that pushes iPhone repairs up is when a crack damages more than the glass — the digitizer (touch layer), True Tone, or Face ID components can be affected, which adds to the job.
Samsung’s range is wider, so the spread is bigger. A standard Galaxy A-series phone can be very affordable. But Samsung’s flagship S and Note lines use curved “edge” OLED glass, and on many models the screen, glass, and frame come fused as one assembly — meaning even a small crack can require replacing the whole unit. Add in under-display fingerprint sensors that have to be recalibrated, and top-tier Samsungs can land at the higher end of the scale. Foldables (Z Fold and Z Flip) are their own category entirely.
Brand matters less than the specific model and exactly what broke. A newer OLED phone — iPhone or Samsung — will cost more than an older LCD one, and the only way to know your real number is a quick look at the actual device.
