What Are the Types of Phone Damages

Phone damage isn’t one-size-fits-all — different types call for completely different repairs, and the fix that works for one issue can be irrelevant for another. Here’s a rundown across brands, not just iPhones.

Physical impact damage

Drops and impacts cause cracked screens, dented frames, and sometimes internal component displacement, depending on the severity, surface, and angle of the fall. A drop onto carpet from waist height and the same drop onto concrete from a car window can produce wildly different damage even though both look like “I dropped my phone.”

Liquid exposure

Spills, submersion, or even prolonged humidity can lead to corrosion on internal circuitry, affecting anything from a single speaker to the entire motherboard. The damage is often progressive — a phone that works right after getting wet can fail days later as corrosion spreads.

Battery and power issues

Batteries degrade with charge cycles and age regardless of how carefully you treat the phone, leading to reduced runtime, unexpected shutdowns, or in rare cases, swelling that visibly distorts the phone’s shape. A swollen battery is a safety issue, not just a performance one, and should be addressed immediately.

Software-related malfunctions

Not all issues are physical — corrupted updates, malware, or storage overload can cause a phone to behave as if it has hardware damage when it doesn’t. We always run a quick software check as part of any diagnostic, since it can save you the cost of a repair you didn’t actually need. See our full phone repair services for what we check.

Port and connector wear

Charging ports and headphone jacks see constant physical use and can loosen, collect lint and debris, or fail entirely over time, especially on phones that get tossed in bags or pockets without a case.

Camera and sensor damage

Impacts or moisture can affect camera focus, sensor accuracy, or Face ID and fingerprint sensors, sometimes without any visible external damage at all. A phone that looks perfectly fine can still have a cracked camera lens or a misaligned sensor underneath.

Get an accurate diagnosis first

Because several of these issues can look identical from the outside, a proper diagnostic is the only way to know what you’re actually dealing with before paying for a repair. Bring it by any of our three Fresno locations and we’ll tell you straight what’s wrong.
